Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has disclosed that plan has reached advanced stage for the maiden edition of the Tinubu/Shettima Football Championship by youths across the country.
He made the disclosure when he inaugurated the Tinubu/Shettima Football Championship Committee at the All Progressives Congress Grassroots Independent Campaign Council (APC-ICC) headquarters in Abuja, on Friday.
According to him, “The presidential candidate of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima Mustapha are sports enthusiasts who have been supporting youths and sports activities even before they ventured into mainstream politics.
“No country will prosper if its youths are not encouraged to seek for International stardom by displaying their talents in sports and many other fields of human endeavours.”
Senator Al-Makura, who is the Chairman of Support Groups and NGOs committee at the APC-ICC, said when he was the governor of Nasarawa State, he supported the development of youths in many aspects, like: The Nasarawa United Football Club, reconstructed the Lafia Township Stadium, built the Lafia Special School for the Disabled, among others.
In his acceptance speech, Nigeria’s former International footballer, Mr. Daniel Amokachi (aka The Bull), who is the Chairman of the Technical committee said, “I have planned with FIFA/CAF Technical Instructor, Mohammed Ameenu, amongst other stakeholders, to organise the football fiesta tagged, “Unity Cup” with the main aim to support Tinubu/Shettima and to fish-out young and grassroots talents towards taking Nigeria to stardom and to play professional internationally”.
Secretary of the APC-ICC Committee on Support Groups and NGOs, Alhaji Abdullahi Saulawa, said that the committee membership was selected based on merit and charged them to work for the development of the party and youths in the country in general.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Media Sub-committee, Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed, said they planned to host the competition’s grand finale at the eve of the general elections.
Senator Al-Makura inaugurated members of the committee, who include Daniel Amokachi, Senator (rtd Gen) Sani Saleh, Ambassador Abdullahi Bage, Ahmed Dantata, Yetunde Adeniji, Segun Tomori, Abdullahi Muhammad, Umaru Abdullahi Ganduje, Umar Tanko Yakasai, Musa Khalid, Zakaria M. Zakaria and others.
