…says Nigerians must beg God for forgiveness for vilifying ex-President
A former Special Adviser to the President on New Media, Mr Reno Omokri, has said that Nigerians must beg God to forgive them for vilifying former President Goodluck Jonathan during his tenure.
Omokri, who attributed the various problems now bedevilling the country to alleged ill-treatment given Jonathan and his administration by many personalities now in the current President Muhammadu buhari-led government and their supporters, said all that Nigeria is going through now were not coincidental, but spiritual.
The former presidential aide spoke in a 10:29 minutes video clip that has gone viral on social media.
He said all the politicians and other Nigerians, who told lies against Jonathan just to undermine his government, were now reaping the rewards of their antics as nemesis was now catching up with them, even under the President Buhari-led government, which they all helped to bring into power.
Recalling the role played by various actors in ensuring that Jonathan was not re-elected for a second term in 2015, Omokri said the situation of the country and the well-being of all Nigerians were far better under the former president’s government, when compared with obtains now.
Below is the excerpt from the video:
“I’m here to talk about how all those who undermined President Goodluck Jonathan, who lied against him, who told complete falsehood against him to try to undermine him to get to power, how they are all reaping what they sowed one by one, all of them.
“With what I know, some of them are reaping it, people like Amaechi. You don’t know what is happening publicly yet until they become public. But I’m going to talk about the ones that are public now.
“Let’s talk about Bola Tinubu. Bola Tinubu is somebody who coined that word using some uncouth words on the former president. This is a man who did his best for Nigeria, and Bola Tinubu went about undermining the man, lying against the man. Where is Bola Tinubu today? Look at the statement he made yesterday (Sunday). Ayo Fayose said ‘severe pains.’ I felt sorry for him.
“Look, Buhari is not done with you. Those bullion vans, they will come back to that. Look at Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, a former governor of the Central bank. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is a liar. Sanusi, take me to court, me Reno Omokri, take me to court, I’ll call you a liar and I’ll disgrace you. This is a man who lied that former President Jonathan, that $49.8billion was missing from the Federation account. A governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria! Then when that was exposed to be a lie, he reduced it to $22bilion. Then to $12billion, then to $10.8billion. But because of the way they had bribed the media, people were whipping up anti-Jonathan sentiments. All that was a lie.
“Former President Jonathan has been out of office for five years, where is the accusation? Where is the $10.8billion, where is the $22billion, where is the $49.8billion. It was all lies and Sanusi knew it was lies when he was saying it. It was part of their plans. They leaked the letter to Amaechi. All this was planned to undermine former President Jonathan and we are reaping it now in Nigeria.
“Look at Adams Oshiomhole. In 2013, he won his re-election under President Jonathan because Jonathan allowed free and fair election. Jonathan did not support the PDP candidate. Jonathan said let there be a level playing ground. He said ‘my ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian.’ After Oshiomhole won, he came to the Villa to thank President Jonathan. When Jonathan was out of power, he began to insult him with uncouth language, lying that he went to America and in America they told him that it’s just three people under Jonathan that looted about 30billion, all kinds of useless manner of lies. Look at him today now! Kicked out by his own party and he says he wants to go to court. Does Buhari respect court judgments? Look at Oby Ezekwesili, she weaponised Bring back our Girls under President Jonathan. She went about causing embarrassments, rolling on the floor. Look at her today now.
“Nasir el-Rufai publicly came out and disgraced her. He called her publicly, he said that she came to beg in the night for money. Can you imagine that?
“Look at Omoyele Sowore. Omoyele Sowore, a blackmailer, a liar, used his Sahara Reporters to undermine former President Jonathan with different lies. You can google it. I chronicled 15 lies that young man told against former President Jonathan.
“On the day that Muhammadu Buhari won, Omoyele Sowore celebrated, he was happy, he was almost shedding tears and he says he wants to be president of Nigeria. God forbid! Such a useless blackmailer! Yes, I said it, take me to court.
“I am a patriot; I feel so bad because of what is happening in my country. I’m not going to start pretending, I’m not contesting for any election. I am here to say the truth.
“Look at Ango Abdullahi of the Northern Elders’ Forum, when he was insulting former President Jonathan, did Jonathan say anything against him? Did Jonathan release statements insulting him? He tried that under Buhari, what has happened? Three days ago, the Presidency released a statement insulting him. Now, they cannot go to their villages-herdsmen, bandits, kidnappers, Boko Haram. The entire North is completely insecure, worse than what it was under Jonathan.
“Now, Nigeria, according to Global Terrorism Index is the third most terrorised country in the world. We are more insecure than Syria when they were fighting.
“Look at Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in Kano, saying that he would use Almajiri to get rid of Jonathan. Now, the Almajiri, they are now kicking them out of Kano. They say they are brining COVID-19.
“The only man to have built a school for them was Jonathan, yet they were stoning Jonathan. They stoned in Bauchi, they stoned him in Katsina. He built hundreds of schools for them and then look at what they did today. Nine universities in the North, Jonathan built them.
“Look at Wole Soyinka. Not only did he insult the former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, he called her Hippopotamus. He asked Nigerians to forgive Buhari. Today, he cannot even talk. Aisah Buhari has turned the Presidential Villa into a shooting range. She goes about quarrelling. She’s such a quarrelsome woman. The Presidential Villa is now a place for domestic dispute. Where is Wole Soyinka? Can he talk? Two months ago, the Presidency released a statement ridiculing him, insulting him. Oh, I felt like crying for Wole Soyinka! Look at how you have reduced yourself from a Nobel award, now you’re not even a noble man. Just look at that! Wole Soyinka should accept responsibility for bringing the worst ruler in Nigeria’s history.
Farouk Kperogi just wrote a statement of the amount of corruption under Buhari. According to Farouk Kperogi, this is not me and remember, Farouq Kperogi is a former Buhari loyalist. He said that the amount of corruption that Tunde Sabiu, that is Buhari’s nephew, who he has made his special assistant or private secretary, can you imagine. Already, that is corruption because that is nepotism, he said that the man has almost a trillion in his account. I am quoting Farouq Kperogi and he says that even the CBN governor is aware of it. I am quoting Farouk Kperogi.
“According to Transparency International, Nigeria is more corrupt right now than at any time under former President Jonathan. Who owns the Ikoyi Apartment billions? Till today, they’ve not told you. If it was former President Jonathan or anybody under his government, it would have taken two seconds for them to tell you. Aisha Buhari’s ADC that looted so much money, what has happened to him? Where is Babachir Lawal? Are they trying him? Just imagine that! The kind of corruption under this administration, when Buhari goes and a good government comes, when they expose Buhari, oh , Nigerians will weep. And Wole Soyinka, I am so ashamed of you. You were alive in 1982 to 1985 when this man ruined Nigeria. You, as a lecturer and your colleagues, were running out of Nigeria, going abroad, and you came back and you began to promote this man simply because you hated Jonathan and you said anything but Jonathan, you said because he’s a minority. Look at you now, can you talk? Can you cough? You can’t! And it’s so sad what is happening in Nigeria now under Muhammadu Buhari. Jonathan was using the Army to try to cage these herdsmen so that they would not kill Nigerians. El-Rufai said that if he tries that, insulting him. Look at what is happening in Nigeria now, herdsmen are killing. Audu Ogbeh, a man who was holding rallies, attacking Jonathan, undermining Jonathan, Audu Ogbeh cannot even go to his own village in Benue because of herdsmen, because of insecurity.
“It is not coincidental. All these things are spiritual. I know former President Jonathan. He spent 10 days with me and my family in California. The man can’t hurt a fly! He’s not a perfect man. Nobody is perfect, but he’s the most selfless leader ever to have governed Nigeria. A man who cannot hurt a fly. Look at the Almajiri, he built over a hundred schools for them. Is he s Muslim? Is he a Northerner? Buhari, who is a Muslim and a Northerner, how many schools has he built for Almajiri? How many? Jonathan built nine universities in Northern Nigeria, only three in the South. Look at Buhari now, Chief of Army staff, National Security Adviser, Minister of defence, Chief of Air Staff, head of police, head of EFCC, head of DMI, head of Customs, Immigration, all Northern Muslims. Is Nigeria a Muslim brotherhood? Under former President Jonathan this thing was balanced. In the military, 55 per cent of headship went to Northern Muslims and then only 45 per cent went to Christian Southerners. There was balance. Today, is there balance? Under Jonathan, Nigeria was the third fastest growing economy in the world. Today, we are the world headquarters for extreme poverty. Look at that!
“Now, I’ll give you facts and figures. General Buhari said former President Jonathan ruined Nigeria, 50 kilogram of rice under Jonathan was N8000, how much is it today? Fuel under Jonathan was N87 per litre. One dollar was equivalent to N150. Lagos to Abuja airfare was N10,000. A bottle of Coke was N60. A tin of Peak Milk was N80.
“In 2011, Gallop Polls rated Nigeria under President Jonathan as the happiest place on earth. Today, Nigeria is facing a suicide crisis. General Muhammadu Buhari said he saved Nigeria from collapse, yet Nigeria is now the world headquarters for extreme poverty. According to the World Bank, our economy is going to witness the worst recession ever in our history.
“I’m asking you Nigerians, think about what you did to this man. Is the man paying me? No! But I have fear of God. What Nigerians did to that man, that nation needs to beg God for forgiveness.”
