The Nigeria Diaspora for Asiwaju (NDA), said former Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu is the only candidate that can defeat Atiku and PDP in the coming presidential election in 2023.
This was revealed by Mr Ayobami Oyalowo, the NDA’s National Spokesperson in Abuja on Thursday.
He added that only Tinubu, the former two-term governor of Lagos State, could build on Buhari’s achievements.
Tinubu’s devotion and dedication to the APC, according to the NDA spokesman, cannot be questioned.
Recall that Buhari had met with 22 APC governors on Tuesday, soon before leaving for a State Visit to Spain, to seek their support in naming his successor.
At the meeting, he informed the governors that the traits he sought in a successor were a leader who could maintain the country together as a single entity.
Buhari also stated that his successor should be able to protect the country from terrorism, insurgency, and other violent crimes that have been keeping Nigeria prisoner and preventing Nigerians from realizing their full potential and fulfilling their destiny.
While acknowledging that these attributes were exactly what Nigerians were searching for in a leader at the time, Oyalowo said Tinubu was a great match.
He hailed Tinubu as a detribalised leader and political strategist with the expertise, capacity, and exposure to lead Nigeria’s next president, adding he was more than qualified.
He said Tinubu, who is also one of the APC’s leaders, will go down in history as the brains behind the party’s multiple victories and rise to power in 2015.
Tinubu, he claims, is the most faithful and electable candidate, having twice been elected as the head of Nigeria’s most prominent state.
“It is only Tinubu that can consolidate on Buhari’s achievements in the last seven years.
“As a founding member of the APC, he had committed not only his time to building the party but his resources and energy.
“Tinubu in his political career had never lost an election, we are therefore confident that with him on the ballot, it will be a sure victory for the APC in the coming 2023 presidential election.
“He has vast knowledge in economic management and a perfect understanding of Nigeria’s political economy,” Oyalowo said.
He pointed out that during his two terms as governor of Lagos State, Tinubu increased the state’s internal income collection from a pitiful N600 million per month to N51 billion today.
He said that while Tinubu was governor, he received an offer from Enron to start the first state-backed power generating and that the country would need to travel the power transmission route.
This, he noted, was among numerous other accomplishments, including the state’s infrastructural development.
Oyalowo, on the other hand, thanked the president for his faith in Tinubu throughout the years.
He stated that the NDA was certain that the “Jagaban” would emerge as the APC presidential candidate in the June 6 to June 8 primary poll.
