The Sultan of Sokoto, Dr Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has appealed to President Muhammdu Buhari to immediately prosecute arrested terrorists and bandits in the country.
Abubakar, who made the appeal on Monday evening at an interactive session with stakeholders in Jos, the Plateau State capital, said the killing of innocent citizens had gone far too long.
He demanded the prosecution of arrested suspects to serve as a deterrent to others, saying, “the path of peace is justice, and the path of justice is equity and inclusion.”
Speaking further, the Sultan called for mutual understanding and religious tolerance among the two major religions in Nigeria.
The monarch noted that no religion preaches violence, and that anyone that does it “is going straight to hell”.
He recalled that some religious leaders used their platforms to make inciting comments to their followers and urged them to desist from such acts.
The Sultan of Sokoto as such urged that perpetrators of attacks should be publicly prosecuted.
