The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), and the Federal Government have been directed by the Court of Appeal in Abuja to opt for an out-of-court amicable resolution of their dispute.
Appeal by ASUU against the National Industrial Court’s September 21 ruling, ordering the union to halt their strike action was up on Wednesday at the Appeal Court, and the court gave the directive in its.
Lead lawyers for the Federal Government and ASUU, Mr. James Igwe (SAN) and Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), respectively, were present in court.
ASUU has been on strike since February 14. It announced a complete and indefinite extension of the strike in August.
The contention among others, is the academic union’s demand for increased welfare, and the revitalisation of public universities.
