Senegal forward Sadio Mane has won his second consecutive CAF Player of the Year Award, beating his compatriot Eduardo Mendy and Egypt’s Mohammed Salah.
Mane who has just joined Bayern Munich from Liverpool had an eventful year, winning his country’s first Africa Cup of Nations trophy and playing a key role in his former club’s Premier League title run, albeit unsuccessful.
For the female category, Nigeria’s powerhouse striker Asisat Oshoala won the award. And with that, she became the first player (male or female) to win the CAF Player of the Year Award five times.
The Barcelona Femini star won the award at the 2022 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Award held in Rabat, Morocco on Thursday, July 21.
Oshoala beat Zambia’s Grace Chanda and Cameroon’s Ajara Njoya to win her record 5th award. Only Perpetua Nkwocha, Yaya Toure and Samuel Eto come close with four.
Recall that Oshoala was ruled out of the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations due to injury after the game against South Africa.
The Super Falcons star wore a knee brace to the award ceremony as she could not contain her excitement about winning the award.
