The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has been ordered by the House of Representatives to postpone the delivery of 15 billion naira in counterpart funds that the Federal Government had requested, pending House approval of the Commission’s budget.
This came after Unyime Idem, a member of the green chamber, moved a motion on Thursday to call the House’s attention to the Federal Government’s request.
The appeal stated that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recovered funds that will be used by the Ministry of Niger Delta to jointly finance an intervention and humanitarian program totaling several billions of naira without budgetary provisions.
The NDDC Budget Estimates for 2021, 2022, and 2023 are on the House’s agenda for approval. Without the necessary financial appropriation and approval from the house, the federal government’s request for humanitarian assistance and proposals would be unlawful and a violation of the Appropriations Act.
