Musiliu Smith, the chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), has resigned from his job.
According to reports, Smith was requested to retire by the Board of the Commission and he agreed.
According to a reliable source at the commission, Smith, a former inspector general of police, would pass over to retired justice Clara Ogunbiyi, who is the panel’s representative for the judiciary.
Ikechukwu Ani, the commission’s spokesperson, verified the resignation on Wednesday.
The commission and the Office of the Inspector-General of Police have been at odds about which organisation should be in charge of hiring new members for the Force.
The PSC encouraged prospective candidates to visit its website to submit an application after advertising recruiting for constables.
However, the police advised the general public to disregard the warning in a statement, stating that the Force alone is in charge of the recruitment procedure.
