Armed soldiers on Friday arrested a top official of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Osun State chapter, Kazeem Oyewale, aka ‘Asiri Eniba.’
It was learnt that Oyewale, who is the NURTW Chairman of the Olorunda unit, was arrested on Friday afternoon by the soldiers at his Ojurin, Osogbo motor park office.
The NURTW chieftain’s arrest was said to have caused panic at the Old Garage Area where the park is located, as many drivers and passengers waiting to board vehicles to different destinations scampered to safety.
The Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State had recently said that it had written several petitions to security agencies against the NURTW chairman for attacking its members to security.
According to eye witnesses, who pleaded not to be identified, Oyewale was arrested and taken away by the soldiers who stormed the union’s office in two vehicles.
They said the NURTW chairman was whisked away by the soldiers to a yet to be ascertained destination.
Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, said she was not aware of the arrest of NURTW chairman.
