Oluranti Badejo, 51, has been detained by Ogun State police after he is accused of killing his wife, Folasade Badejo, 40, by beating her.
It was learnt that the event took place at Orimerunmu, Mowe in the state’s Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area.
Abimbola Oyeyemi, the police spokesman, informed reporters on Thursday that the suspect was detained as a result of a report that the deceased’s younger sister filed at the Mowe police divisional headquarters.
He claimed that the deceased’s sister had informed the authorities that the husband had beaten the woman to death over a small argument.
Oyeyemi claimed that SP Folake Afeniforo, the DPO for the Mowe division, swiftly sent the divisional detectives to the location where the suspect was arrested.
“The lifeless body of the victim was there and then evacuated to the mortuary in Sagamu for post-mortem examination. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect strangled the deceased during a scuffle as a result of a minor disagreement.
“Having realised that he has killed his wife, the suspect used a hot iron to burn parts of the body of the deceased, to look as if she was electrocuted. But unfortunately for him, their 8-year-old daughter was there and witnessed the whole thing.
“It was the daughter who testified seeing her father strangulating her deceased mother,” Oyeyemi said.
According to Oyeyemi, the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, to have directed that the suspect be taken to the Homicide section of the state Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and diligent prosecution
