Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has handed over the staff and instrument of office to Oba Abdul Azeez Oluwatoyin Akinde as the new Oloja Ekun of Igbesaland.
Governor Abiodun, who was represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Afolabi Afuape, said that his government was committed to maintaining peace, tranquility and orderliness across communities in the state.
He added that royal fathers are held in high esteem by their subjects, based on their unique position as principal agents for social mobilisation, community development, and effective governance at the grassroots.
Also speaking on the occasion, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency, noted that the choice of the new Oloja Ekun would no doubt be the beginning of a new dawn for Igbesaland, urging all the sons and daughters of the land to cooperate with the monarch for the development of the town
In his welcome address, Chairman of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, Hon. Sheriff Musa, represented by the Vice Chairman, Mrs Olatunbosun Animashaun, stated that the installation of the new Oloja Ekun of Igbesaland would also enhance the development of the area.
Earlier, Oba Akinde, while speaking, urged the indigenes and residents of Igbesaland to join hands with him and give him their continued support and cooperation in order to give the community a benevolent leadership that would lead the town to greater heights.
“We give God the glory for making today a historic day in the life of Igbesaland and my humble self. My sincere appreciation goes to the good people of Igbesa kingdom for their encouragement and support, particularly our chiefs and elders. I am soliciting your continued support and cooperation to give Igbesa kingdom the most benevolent leadership that it deserves. Let us jointly set a pace that will be difficult to erase in the future,” he added.
