A day after the collapse of a seven-storey building in Oniru, Victoria Island area of Lagos, the state Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Idris Salako, has resigned.
Earlier, two people were confirmed dead from the building collapse. However, agencies working on the site announced Monday that three more bodies have been recovered from the rubbles, making a total of bodies to have been recovered from the incident.
Salako’s resignation was confirmed in a statement on Monday by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso.
Meanwhile, it is not clear if Salako’s resignation has to do with the building collapse.
According to Omotoso, “The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has accepted the resignation of the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako.”
He said the governor appreciated the commissioner for “his services to the State and wishes him success in his future endeavours.”
He added that Sanwo-Olu warned all players in the sector to respect the law or face the consequences of any indiscretion, no matter who the perpetrators are.
