The death toll from the seven-storey building, which collapsed at Oba Idowu, Oniru Street, Victoria Island, Lagos State on Sunday, has risen to five, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
After the building collapsed on Sunday, rescue operations recovered two bodies. Three more bodies have been recovered after the initial two, making the total of bodies recovered five.
In a statement on Monday by the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency said it had been working closely with first responders and other officials within the past 24 hours.
“The Agency alongside other first responders have been working for over 24 hours at the above 7-storey building which collapsed yesterday,” he said in an update on the collapsed building.
“Another three bodies have been extricated from the rubble bringing the fatalities to five. The painstaking process is ongoing. Further updates to follow,” the statement said.
