Fourteen persons have been confirmed dead in a road crash which happened along Gaya-Wudil Road in Kano State as a Toyota Hummer bus and a Hyundai jeep collided, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps.
The Kano State FRSC Sector Commander, Zubairu Mato, confirmed the number of deaths on Tuesday.
He stated that road safety officials arrived at the scene of the accident at Rege Village by Antukuwani, on Kano-Gaya Road at 7.45 pm.
According to him, the bus with number plate GML 102 TA belonging to Kano Line was coming from Gombe State when it collided with the jeep around 7.30 pm on Sunday night.
“Thirteen passengers were burnt to death on the spot with 6 others were injured in the accident,” he said.
It was learnt that one of the female passengers died on Monday morning at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital intensive care unit.
The FRSC commander said the auto crash was caused by overspeeding and dangerous overtaking.
He, therefore, asked drivers to always ensure the use of speed limit devices and avoid dangerous overtaking while driving on highways.
