The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, has replaced DCP Abba Kyari with DCP Tunji Disu as the new Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT).
CP Frank Mba, the Force Public Relations Officer, disclosed in a statement on Monday in Abuja. He said the appointment was with immediate effect.
Disu is a former Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Lagos State, he has taken the position of Kyari who was suspended at the weekend by the Police Service Commission (PSC).
Kyari’s suspension, FirstNews reported, was to allow for his investigation following his indictment by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) that he allegedly received a $1 million bribe from a notorious fraudster, Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi.
According to Mba, the appointment of Disu as Kyari’s replacement would fill the leadership gap within the IRT and refocus the unit for a better service delivery.
“The IGP has charged the new Head of the IRT to demonstrate his professional competence in his leadership of the Unit,” Mba said.
Few things to know about the new head of the IRT, Disu, include that he served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations at the Force Headquarters.
He had also served as the Deputy Head of the State CID in Rivers, as well as Commander of the Nigeria Police Contingent to the African Union (AU) Peacekeeping Mission in Dafur, Sudan.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the Lagos State University (LASU) and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the Adekunle Ajasin University, Ondo State.
