The sit-at-home order issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra, on Monday, turned bloody in Nkwogu, Ahiazu, Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State when a passenger was roasted alive by suspected members of the separatist group.
The order grounded commercial activities in most parts of the state as residents stayed indoors.
Students sitting for NECO examination were prevented from taking their papers as schools remained shut.
The burnt victim was said to be an occupant of one the three buses set ablaze by a mob.
Our correspondent gathered that the deceased was inside one of the three buses that were torched by a mob.
Two of the buses were said to be coming from Umuahia, Abia State capital, when they ran into the suspected IPOB members, who allegedly fired shots at the tyres, forcing the bus to stop abruptly.
The bus passengers were said to have scampered to safety, while the hoodlums reportedly shot one of the drivers on the hip.
But the passenger was said to have been trapped in the bus as it was being set ablaze.
Also, security agents and the gunmen were said to have exchanged gunshots around Banana junction along Orlu-Owerri road.
State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Mike Abattam, could not be reached as of the time of writing this report.
