.FBI investigating Linda Ikeji, Dino Melaye
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States of America has reportedly set a one-month deadline for the Nigerian government to wrap up its investigations on embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari.
On Sunday, however, the Inspector General of Police announced the immediate suspension of Kyari by the Police Service Commission (PSC).
Until his travail, Kyari was the head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the police force.
The IGP, Usma Baba, said he actually recommended Kyari’s suspension.
The disgraced super cop was indicted by a U.S. court over his alleged deals with global fraudster, Ramon Abbas, popularly called Hushpuppi.
The highly decorated officer was indicted by the court as a conspirator in a $1.1 million fraudulent deal against a Qatari businessman.
The PSC in a statement released on Sunday afternoon by its spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, said Mr Kyari was relieved of all his duties pending the outcome of the investigation in respect of his indictment by the FBI.
Kyari has, however, denied the accusation.
But First News gathered on Sunday that the FBI agents who met with the IGP set a one month deadline for the police authorities to conclude their investigations, and then yield Kyari for extradition.
The sleuths particularly pointed out that any delay in extraditing Kyari would be tantamount to court contempt on the part of the Nigerian government, as the accused appeared unwilling to submit himself for prosecution.
Meanwhile, Kyari’s suspension took effect from Saturday, July 31, and would continue until the conclusion of investigations.
“The Commission has also directed the Inspector General of Police to furnish it with information on further development on the matter for necessary further action.
“The Commission’s decision which was conveyed in a letter with reference, PSC/POL/D/153/vol/V/138 to the Inspector General of Police today, Sunday, August 1st, 2021, was signed by Hon. Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi, a retired Justice of the Supreme Court and Honourable Commissioner 1 in the Commission for the Commission’s Chairman, Alhaji Musiliu Smith, a retired Inspector General of Police who is currently on leave,” Ani, the PSC spokesman, disclosed.
In the same vein, the FBI is said to be investigating yet a revelation by Hushpuppi of his alleged chummy relationship with flamboyant former senator, Dino Melaye, and popular blogger, Linda Ikeji.
Hushpuppi had reportedly listed the names as he squealed on those in his fraud ring.
Following the revelation, the FBI has put the two Nigerians on its watch list, sources informed First News.
