…alleges ‘they fed him with petrol, kerosene, locked in a room for 14 days to die’
A four-month-old baby boy born without hands has allegedly been fed with petrol, kerosene and shoe silicon by his father, Mr Bolarinwa Oloke and grandmother as part of their efforts to get rid of him.
The baby was also allegedly locked indoors by his father and grandmother for 14 days, where he was expected to cry to death.
First News gathered from a reliable source that the father and grandmother had been looking fir means to kill the baby since they realized he has no hands at birth.
The baby boy’s condition, according to a source led to the decision by the father and grandmother who refused to name him but rather decided to call him a monster.
Mother of the baby, Mrs Oyeronke Oloke, while speaking with FirstNews said she had undergone series of ordeals in the hands of her husband since she gave birth to the baby deformed child.
According to her, her husband and mother-in-law rejected her and the baby after their attempts to kill him failed.
She said she was moved to her mother-in-law’s house in Osogbo, where they attempted several times to kill the baby.
Oloke said they fed the baby with poisonous substances such as petrol, kerosene and shoe silicon so that he could die.
She said,“I gave birth to a baby boy without hand, my husband and my mother-in-law refused to show him love. They tried to kill him by giving him a lot of poisonous things. They gave him petrol and kerosene to drink. They also fed him with silicon to eat but all proved abortive, the baby didn’t die. Later, they went ahead and locked him in a room for good 14 days with the hope that he will die. When they were about to lock him in the room so that he will die, they called a Rev Sister named Mrs Fadun from their church, Baptist church in Osogbo with four elders in the family to talk to me.
“After this, they took the baby from me and locked him inside a room in an empty flat for 14 days. When it was eight days, I stopped lactating and I became sick. I have to call my pastor to inform him with a woman close to the area who told me not to give up. I thought the baby was dead because they had already dug a pit to bury him. But when a man that came to bury him found him alive, my mother-in-law and the man raised alarm that the boy is a monster. They said evil spirits had come to feed him every night. When they moved out of the flat, I sneaked in to carry the baby and ran away. The baby was very weak. His head and side had started peeling because they left him naked on the bed for 14 days.”
Speaking further, Mrs Oloke said her second phase of punishment began when she got to her home in Ibadan.
“On getting to Ibadan, my husband descended on me and beat me mercilessly. He said I have brought the shameful son and monster back without allowing him to die in Osogbo as they planned. Few days after, he took my two other kids and left the house. For about two weeks now, he has left with my kids”, Mrs Oloke lamented in tears.
Meanwhile, our correspondent learnt that the matter has been reported at one of the NSCDC offices in Ibadan.
Meanwhile, CEO of a child advocate NGO, Dr Oluwadamisi Tayo-Ladega has condemned the decision by Mr Oloke and his mother to reject the baby due to his condition.
Tayo-Ladega, who is also a public health expert, said the baby’s condition would not stop him from doing exploits in life.
She, however, implored parents and guardian to jettison such act, saying it may lead to punishment by the law.
All efforts to hear from Mr Bolarinwa Olokemeji, was not successful as his mobile phone was switched off as at the time of filing this report.
