This Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State was disrupted at Polling Unit 11, Ward 7 in Kajola, Atakumosa West Local Government Area of the state.
The disruption, it was learnt, followed the arrest of some residents of the area by security officers stationed at the unit.
An eyewitness told BBC Pidgin that some men, in uniform of one of the security agencies, arrested some residents of the area without explanation.
As a result an argument was said to have ensued between voters and political party agents.
The eyewitness said that when the argument turned violent, the youths “beat the police officer stationed at the polling unit who intervened in the matter. It was the fight which led to the damage of the ballot box.”
“This was why the police officer called for reinforcement that led to the visit of the DPO,” another eyewitness added.
INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner for Osun State, Prof Abdulganiyu Raji, was at the scene of the incident.
Police, it was learnt, later secured the damaged ballot box.
