ODAHIEKWU OGUNDE, YENAGOA
Unidentified gunmen clad in military uniform have allegedly abducted Madam Betinah Benson, mother of the Secretary to the Bayelsa State Government, Mr Kombowei Benson.
The 80-year-old woman was said to have been abducted in her residence at old Legislative Quarters, Yenagoa, the state capital, at about 11: pm on Tuesday.
Madam Betinah, who was also reportedly abducted in 2013, was said to have been whisked away to an unknown destination.
The octogenarian was said to have been kidnapped for ransom.
Efforts to get insight into the likely reasons for Betinah’s kidnap did not succeed as his son, Kombowei Benson, a former Speaker of the Bayelsa House of Assembly neither took his calls nor respond to text message to his mobile phone.
The State Police Command, however, confirmed the abduction.
Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Asinim Butswat, said the command had already launched a manhunt for the rescue of Madam Betinah.
