The Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, on Wednesday suspended three of his social media aides for alleged misconduct and gross insubordination.
The three aides; Innocent Jumbo, Givson Kenigbolo, and Adu Oyaba Jacob, who are all from Yenagoa Local Government Area and also members of the state government New Media Team, were suspended for three months without pay.
The governor took the decision following the social media activities of the trio which include putting up different posts attacking two leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
In the notice of suspension sighted by our correspondent and signed by the Director, New Media to the governor, Kola Oredipe, Diri described the development as “unwarranted infractions”.
He said, “After a careful review of the untoward public embarrassment brought upon the Prosperity Government on the social media by the trio of Gift Kenigbolo, Innocent Jumbo and Adu Oyaba Jacob (All Special Assistants), His Excellency, the Governor has approved the immediate suspension without pay of the three of them for a period of three months beginning from January 2022.
“His Excellency is pained over such unproductive internal media war that has brought disrepute upon this government.
“The Governor has insisted that all his social media aides must show discipline, decorum, self-restraints and professionalism in their public conduct and that this suspension will serve as deterrent to others as such acts of indiscipline would henceforth, not be condoned.
“He warned all those still engaged in unprofessional conduct to stop forthwith and operate within set rules and guidelines with the sole aims of promoting and projecting the programmes and projects of the Prosperity Administration.”
