Delta Bloodbath: Slain Soldiers to be Buried Wednesday

In a solemn ceremony marked by grief and honor, the Nigerian Army has announced that the soldiers tragically killed in the Okuama community of Delta State will be laid to rest on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at the National Cemetery in Abuja.

The burial, scheduled for 3 pm, aims to pay tribute to the fallen heroes who lost their lives in service to their nation.

President Bola Tinubu is slated to attend the event as the Special Guest of Honour, underscoring the significance of honoring the brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The tragedy unfolded when at least 17 military personnel attached to the 181 Amphibious Battalion were brutally slain during a communal clash over a land dispute in Bomadi and Okuoma communities.

The soldiers, responding to a distress call, were ambushed and killed by irate youths, sending shockwaves throughout the nation.

Amidst speculation of a reprisal attack, the Defence Headquarters refuted the claims, emphasizing the commitment to apprehending the perpetrators through lawful means.

The Defence Headquarters released the names of the fallen soldiers, reaffirming the resolve to seek justice for their untimely deaths.

In response to the heinous act, President Tinubu and the Senate issued directives for the swift apprehension of the assailants. Subsequently, the military conducted extensive operations, leading to the arrest of numerous individuals, including three prime suspects.

Retired army generals and civil society organizations joined in condemning the senseless violence, echoing calls for the apprehension and expedited prosecution of the perpetrators.

Their unified stance underscores the collective demand for justice and the deterrence of future acts of criminality.
