Renowned Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has spoken out following his invitation by the Department of State Services (DSS) over his remarks regarding the activities of bandits in Nigeria.
In a statement addressing the matter, Gumi affirmed the necessity of the invitation and described his interaction with the security agents as productive.
He stated, “Yes, we had a productive interaction on how to curb banditry as we are all trying -each in his own sphere- to tackle the monster bedeviling the nation. There was no animosity but courtesy and full of respect.”
This confirmation comes after the Minister of Information and Orientation, Mohammed Idris, acknowledged Gumi’s invitation for questioning, emphasizing that adherence to the rule of law is paramount.
Gumi’s response, titled ‘Only one person is above the law: The Innocent!’, was shared on social media, addressing concerns raised by well-wishers and journalists regarding his encounter with security officials.
The cleric’s willingness to engage with security agencies suggests his commitment to contributing to efforts aimed at addressing the security challenges facing the nation.
