Police in Sokoto have declared suspects who claimed to have struck the match and set ablaze her body as seen in a viral video, wanted.
Recall that Deborah, a student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, was later Thursday mobbed by some of her colleagues, who also set her body ablaze for allegedly blaspheming Prophet Muhammad.
Video clips showing how the female student was attacked with stones and beaten with sticks before being set ablaze later went viral on social media.
Some of suspects, in one of the video clips, had claimed responsibility for the killing of Deborah, showing on camera the box of matches he used to set the deceased on fire.
The incident had sparked outrage and condemnation across the country and the police command in Sokoto, subsequently, arrested two suspects in connection with the killing.
On Monday, a magistrate’s court sitting in Sokoto remanded the two suspects in prison.
Police Public Relations Officer, Sanusi Abubakar, in a statement on Tuesday, urged members of the public to provide information on the suspects.
The PPRO’s statement read, “The Sokoto State command under the able leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Kamaldeen Kola Okunlola fdc, has declared the suspects spotted in the viral video wanted.
“The command is using this medium to reiterate its commitment towards apprehending the suspects. The command has already deployed all its intelligence and is on the lookout for the suspects .
“Members of the public are enjoined to cooperate with the police and report any mere identification to the command or any security outfit in their domain.”
