COVID-19 third wave is taking a toll in Nigeria as the country on Wednesday recorded 747 fresh cases, highest in any single day in the last five months.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) stated this on its website on Thursday morning.
The centre announced that Lagos State, which has remained the epicentre of COVID-19 in Nigeria, had a total of 488 fresh cases. Lagos was followed by Akwa Ibom, which recorded 121 cases.
Others are Oyo 29, Rivers 25 and Ogun 15.
Kaduna and the Federal Capital Territory had 13 cases each followed by Kwara 11; Ekiti and Osun 10 each; Edo six, Abia three, Anambra two and Plateau one.
NCDC said four deaths were recorded on Wednesday as a result of the pandemic. Nigeria now has a total number of 2,167 as COVID-19 related deaths.
Meanwhile, 87 patients, according to the NCDC, recovered from the virus, and were discharged from various isolation centres in the country.
It added that 165,208 recoveries had been recorded nationwide till date.
Nigeria has over 200 million people but only about 2.5 million of them have been tested for covid according to NCDC.
