A Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday sacked former Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, from the House of Representatives and also declared his seat vacant.
Dogara, representing Bogoro/Dass Federal constituency of Bauchi State, was the Speaker of the House of Representatives between 2015 and 2019.
In his ruling on Friday, the presiding judge, D.U. Okorowo, affirmed that Dogara’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was wrong and as such should vacate the legislative seat.
Dogara had dumped the PDP after winning his re-election under the party in 2019, to join the ruling APC.
He had been embroiled in a cold war with his state governor, Bala Mohammed, which he then cited as one of the main reasons he left the PDP for the APC.
Dogara left the PDP for the APC on July 24, 2020.
Meanwhile, he had earlier in 2018 dumped the left the APC for PDP after having a frosty relationship that lasted for two years with the then governor of Bauchi State, Mohammed Abubakar.
Sources close to the former Speaker, however, told First News on Friday that he would appeal against the ruling.
