The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) on Friday advised the Federal Government to compensate farmers whose farmlands were destroyed by herdsmen.
The Islamic group claimed to have overwhelming evidence of various farmlands destroyed by Fulani herdsmen across different states.
In a statement signed by its director, Prof, Ishaq Akintola, MURIC said the compensation could done instalmentaly to douse the tension created by the herdsmen activities across the nation.
“MURIC is now in possession of indubitable evidence of the destruction of crops on farmlands by cows brought by herdsmen.
“We sent out feelers to all states where we have branches of MURIC and the reports are overwhelmingly convincing.
“We asked our members to supply information on the activities of herdsmen in their states, including Abuja. In fact we were stupefied by the outcome.
“This is frightening. Farmers in Kwara State are afraid of going to their farms due to the activities of herders,” MURIC said.
It also added that the Buhari led-administration had not shown good appreciation to farmers in the country, especially considering what they are going through in the hands of the herdsmen.
“What MURIC will like to suggest is that FG should roll out a compensation programme, albeit instalmentaly, to be paid to farmers of all categories,” MURIC said.
The group also warned that there may be crises if the government failed to manage the activities of the herdsmen well.
Recall that MURIC had recently called on Miyetti Allah to find a lasting solution to problems caused by herdsmen by approaching the Federal Government for bailout to buy large land that will be used for ranches and grazing.
Meanwhile, Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Igboho, had vowed to evict killer herdsmen from the Southwest region of the country following various criminal activities reportedly perpetrated by them.
