…says ‘I’m already in court’
Former acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Hilliard Eta, says his expulsion from the ruling party by its National Executive Committee is an exercise in futility.
He contended that the action of the APC NEC against him lacked basis in law.
Eta, however, declared the NEC meeting, where he was suspended, to be illegal.
He was reacting to the news of his expulsion by the APC NEC, presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday.
Etta said, “I am already in Court. The lawyers amongst them should have told them that they can’t make that pronouncement since I am in Court.
“Their action is a nullity because it isn’t even the NEC of the party that met.
“Their so-called acting national secretary has no power to convene NEC. Without prejudice to my pending matter in court, I wish to state that you cannot build something on nothing, unless the court rules otherwise, even the NEC meeting of June 25, was illegal as such all decisions taken since them were built on illegalities.”
Buhari meets governors at Aso Rock over insecurity
President Muhammadu Buhari is currently meeting with state governors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Although the agenda of the meeting is not known, sources say it is not unconnected with the insecurity being experienced across the country.
Recall that while condemning the recent killing of rice farmers in Borno State, the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum and Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, had resolved to meet with the President over security challenges.
