Some persons who claimed to be supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari, on Saturday, beat up a June 12 protester at the Unity Fountain in Abuja.
As Nigeria celebrated Democracy Day, protesters stormed major cities across the country to demonstrate against “bad governance” under the Buhari administration.
A pro-Buhari rally is also being held at the Unity Fountain to show support and solidarity with the President.
Buhari’s supporters were dressed in customised T-shirts and carried placards, with inscriptions such as ‘Nigerians say no to fake activist’, ‘Nigerians say no to violence’.
It was learnt that as one of the June 12 protesters walked past the venue of the rally carrying his placard up in the air, the Buhari supporters attacked him, asking him to leave the venue immediately.
Some of them also descended on him after seizing his placard.
The June 12 protester was however rescued by one of those at the venue.
