President Muhammadu Buhari is currently holding a meeting with outgoing ministers at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Recall that President Buhari had on Wednesday directed all members of his cabinet aspiring for elective offices in 2023 to resign on or before May 16.
Buhari’s directive is in line with the provisions of Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act which states, “No political appointee at any level shall be a voting delegate or be voted for at the convention or congress of any political party for the purpose of the nomination of candidates for any election.”
Buhari had requested the National Assembly to delete the section but the legislature declined.
Ministers attending the ongoing meeting with Buhari are Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige; Rotimi Amaechi, Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi; Minister of Women Affairs, Paulen Tallen and Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio.
Others are Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami; Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of State for Mines and Steel, Uche Ogar; Petroleum Minister, Timipre Sylva and Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Tayo Alasoadura.
