No fewer than six people were killed with many others abducted as bandits attacked a village in Tureta Local Government Area, of Sokoto State.
The bandits were said to have escaped from the ongoing military operation in Zamfara State and moved to Tureta, which shares border with Sokoto State.
Sources said several people were injured in the attack launched around 2am on Thursday.
They added that the bandits used a call for prayer to lure the residents out before launching the attack on them.
“The residents started coming out, thinking it was a time for a dawn prayer and the bandits started shooting at them”, a resident narrated.
Alhaji Maniru Dan’iya, the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, who visited the area assured them that the government would end the bandits’ reign in the state.
He, however, promised that the government would cater for the hospital bill of the injured victims.
