Lagos State Chapter of Child Protection Networks has demanded a thorough investigation on the alleged child defilement case concerning a Nollywood star, Olanrewaju Olayimika, popularly known as Baba Ijesha.
In a statement by its state coordinator, Mrs Ronke Oyelakin, the right group implored the police authorities to ensure adequate investigation of the matter and also ensure the suspect is prosecuted if found guilty.
CPN, a group created by the UNICEF to fight for children’s right, said it would not fold its arms and watch children being abused by anyone in the country irrespective of status.
“CPN is perturbed by the case though we have to wait for police findings on the matter and court position as well. And this is why we are calling on the police to ensure a thorough investigation is done and if found guilty he should be prosecuted according to the law. We will not fold our arms to watch children been abused under our watch by anyone. CPN is less concerned about whoever you are, once you err against our children in this country we will take it up with you because these are the future glory of this country”, Oyelakin said.
The CPN coordinator also advised parents and guardians of children to be careful in entrusting their children with neighbours and friends, adding that most abuses are perpetrated by friends and relatives.
Baba Ijesha has been in the news for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old minor in Lagos.
The matter has generated reactions among Nollywood stars and fans who expressed disappointment in the actor.
