Former Kaduna State Governor, Sen. Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, has described the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru, as a thoroughbred officer and gentleman who took off with a lot of promises for the force.
Makarfi said the late COAS did his best as the head of the Nigerian Army to reposition the force to effectively confront the current security challenges facing the Nigerian nation.
General Attahiru and 10 other military officers died in a Nigerian AirForce ill-fated aircraft that crashed at the Kaduna International Airport on Friday evening. Their remains were buried in Abuja on Saturday.
But Makarfi in his condolence message to President Muhammadu Buhari, families of the deceased and Nigerians over the sudden demise of Attahiru and the 10 other officers, said in a statement that the news of the death of the COAS and his entourage came to him as a shock.
Senator Makarfi, however, said as people of faith, “we don’t question the will of God; we submit to it.”
The former Kaduna governor added that the greatest honour his colleagues could do the COAS and others who died in the accident, is to remain more dedicated and committed to the cause they died for, to ensure that they did not make the supreme sacrifice in vain.
