A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Monday, sentenced the Director-General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, Doyin Okupe, to two and half years imprisonment for breaching the Money Laundering Act.
Okupe was earlier on Monday convicted of the offence by the Court.
Presiding Judge, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, found Okupe guilty of contravening Sections 16(1)&(2) of the Money Laundering Act and accepting cash in excess of the threshold allowed under the Act without going through a financial institution.
Justice Ojukwu found Okupe guilty of 26 out of a 59-count charge preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The judge sentenced Okupe to two years in prison on each of the counts.
But the sentence is to run concurrently.
The judge also said that the convict is at liberty to pay a N500,000 fine on each of the counts — totalling N13 million.
