The Social Democratic Party in Ekiti State has raised the alarm that the ruling All Progressives Party of using political thugs to some of its members in order to disrupt Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
A statement issued by the Segun Oni Campaign Organisation’s Director of Media and Publicity, Mr Jackson Adebayo, on Wednesday, said no fewer than four members of the party in the state had already been kidnapped.
According to the statement, the whereabouts of the kidnapped men, among whom is Hon. Kayode Adelusi aka Sir K, could not be ascertained as of the time of this report.
The statement recalled that SDP had earlier raised the alarm on the nefarious plan of the APC now unfolding as evident in recent unprovoked attacks.
Adebayo revealed that the APC had mapped out this kidnapping strategy to cause disruption, thereby causing confusion to scare eligible voters away from performing their civic duties.
According to the statement, it is the plan of the incumbent APC government to embarrass, molest and threaten innocent SDP members and supporters as well as instil fear in their minds even before the election.
The statement lamented that despite the fact that the law enforcement agents were aware of this development, nothing was being done to curb the menace.
Adebayo, who warned the APC to stop the ongoing harassment and intimidation of SDP members in all the Local Government Areas of the state, stressed the need for peace before, during and after the election.
He, however, reminded the APC that should the party refuse to heed this warning, nobody had the monopoly of violence .
