The Department of State Security on Friday invited popular Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi for grilling over the recent allegation he levelled against the Nigerian Military.
Recall that he had recently claimed that some military personnel are aiding bandits terrorising the country
Voice of America (VOA), Hausa Service monitored on Friday said Gumi was invited to DSS’ Kaduna State office.
Meanwhile, one of Gumi’s aides, Salisu Ahmed, had denied the cleric’s invitation by the DSS.
Salilu who spoke with FirstNews on phone said the development was far from the truth.
He also debunked a claim on Twitter that Gumi was arrested by the DSS early Friday.
“There is no such thing, he was not invited by the DSS. There is nothing like that”, Salisu said.
Meanwhile, Gumi’s spokesman, Malam Tukur Mamu, who spoke in an interview with VOA Hausa on Friday, refuted the allegation against Gumi.
He said that Gumi did not categorically accused the entire military of aiding banditry during his recent TV interview.
Mamu argued that Gumi only stated what people have been saying and “even the soldiers have been saying that there could be some bad eggs among them”.
According him, the military and the TV company have to apologise to Sheikh Gumi and retract their statements, else the cleric will drag them to court.
