Ohanaeze Ndigbo has said that former President Goodluck Jonathan should know he has to support the South-East 2023 presidential bid or face the wrath of Igbo spirit.
The group stated this in response to a report that Jonathan on December 27 allegedly met South-South leaders coordinating his supposed move to contest the 2023 presidency.
The spokesman of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Chief Alex Ogbonnia, who spoke in an interview with The Punch correspondents in Enugu on the allegation, said that it would be unfair for Jonathan not to support Igbo 2023 presidential bid because it was due to the support the Igbo gave to him (Jonathan) that warranted the suffering the region has been going through under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
Ogbonnia said, “The Igbo position on Jonathan’s (alleged) presidential ambition in 2023 is that the Igbo spirit will be against him, the totality of Igbo spirit will be against him and he should realise it.
“Because he is expected to support the Igbo; a form of spiritual reciprocity, to reciprocate the Igbo kind gesture towards him.”
He went further to say that “whatever you see the Igbo suffered under President Buhari was as a result of the support we gave Jonathan. He should realise it.”
“That is the Ohanaeze Ndigbo position and by extension Igbo position,” he added.
