Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano has signed the state anti-open grazing bill into law.
The document, which was recently passed by the state House of Assembly and titled ‘Cattle and Other Livestock Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Bill’, was signed into law by the governor on Friday at the governor’s lodge in Amawbia, Awka, the state capital.
While assenting to the document, Obiano applauded the state lawmakers for expeditiously passing the bill, noting that the law will “hopefully bring about peace”.
According to the governor, law enforcement agencies had already been directed to immediately commence the implementation of the law.
Those at the event include Uju Nworgu, Anambra attorney-general and commissioner for justice; Solo Chukwulobelu, secretary to the state government; Echeng Echeng, commissioner of police; Nnamdi Onkwuba, commissioner for agriculture; and Nnaemeka Achebe, chairman of the south-east council of traditional rulers.
Also at the event were Sunday Okafor, the traditional ruler of Okpuno; Peter Anugwu, the traditional ruler of Mbaukwu; and John Nwokoye, member representing Awka-north at the state house of assembly.
