Abia State governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has insisted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) must produce its next presidential candidate in the coming 2023 general election from the Southeast.
He argues that the zone has never produced a President; hence PDP should give its ticket to the zone.
According to him, zoning the ticket to the Southeast would strengthen the unity among various fragments in the country, adding that the move will also promote fairness and justice,
Ikpeazu argued that with PDP zoning its Chairmanship to the North, the presidential slot should go to the Southeast.
“Our zoning options have been spelled out by the PDP and it says that the chairmanship of the party should go to the North in 2023.
“As an individual, I feel that the weight of equity and justice favours the president from the South and when we come to the South, we find out which zone has not yet produced the president and give the ticket to that zone,” he said.
First News had reported that PDP had last week zoned its National Chairmanship to the North. This came after a meeting by the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the party in Abuja.
