A middle-aged woman was on Friday crushed to death by a truck around Choba junction close to the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Eyewitnesses say the driver of the unmarked truck lost control of the vehicle after it failed brakes and ran into the woman killing her on the spot.
The truck finally came to a halt in front of Agofure Park beside Kilimanjaro Fast Foods with the head of the woman beneath the tyres.
An eyewitness said, “The truck failed brakes and went on a free ride clearing all on its path including the woman, whose head was crushed under”.
The truck driver who was apprehended by pedestrians and handed over to the police, was said to have been cautioned by his passengers to be mindful of his brakes.
The passengers of the trucks who were female traders from Bayelsa State heading to Port Harcourt to sell plantain had noticed that the brakes of the truck was faulty.
It was gathered that relatives of the deceased were contacted through her phone to inform them of the incident.
The remains of the deceased was later evacuated to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching hospital mortuary.
