A 54-year-old nurse, Adenike Bakare, working with the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, has reportedly died of coronavirus.
Bakare, who was an Assistant Director, Nursing Services, died on Friday.
She was reportedly buried privately in Lagos the same day.
The source of infection could not be immediately ascertained as LASUTH is not a designated treatment centre for COVID-19, although there were said to have been admissions of coronavirus patients in the hospital.
Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Prof Adetokunbo Fabamwo, confirmed the death of the nurse.
Fabamwo said, “She worked in the critical care unit of the hospital. You need to speak with the head of that unit to get information about contact tracing regarding the death of Nurse Bakare.”
Chairman, Lagos State branch of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, Blessing Israel, was at the burial of the LASUTH nurse.
