Lookman’s hat-trick secures Europa League final triumph for Atalanta

Ademola Lookman etched his name in football history as his sensational hat-trick led Atalanta to a commanding 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final.

This stunning performance not only secured the prestigious trophy for the Italian club but also ended Leverkusen’s remarkable 51-game winning streak across all European competitions this season.

Lookman opened the scoring early, finding the back of the net in the 12th minute to give Atalanta a crucial 1-0 lead.

His sharp instincts and clinical finishing were on full display again in the 27th minute, doubling the advantage for the Serie A side. The Nigerian forward sealed his hat-trick in the 75th minute, ensuring Atalanta’s dominance and a well-deserved victory.

With this feat, Lookman becomes the third Nigerian player to score in a Europa League final, joining the ranks of Alex Iwobi, who scored for Arsenal in 2019, and Joe Aribo, who netted for Rangers in 2022.

His hat-trick underscores his exceptional talent and importance to Atalanta’s success this season.

The victory marks a significant achievement for Atalanta, who have been steadily rising in European football. It also brings an end to an incredible run by Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen, who had been unbeaten in their last 51 matches across European competitions, a streak that showcased their consistency and strength.

Atalanta’s triumph in the Europa League final not only highlights Lookman’s exceptional abilities but also signifies a memorable chapter in the club’s history, ending Leverkusen’s dominance and propelling Atalanta into the spotlight of European football.
