At least, 30 houses have been burnt in Yandev community after a crisis erupted between the people of Mbakpegh of Ipav and Mbatur in Gboko Local Government Area of the state.
Our correspondent gathered that the incident occurred on Saturday night and lasted till the early hours of Sunday during which the warring factions set ablaze houses.
A witness said many people fled the area while motorists diverted from the Yandev route leading into Gboko when the violence raged.
It was also learnt that the crisis was a result of a land dispute between the people who before now lived in harmony.
However, the state government has taken over the disputed area and warned the warring factions not to trespass any further after its officials visited the places such as churches, farmlands and markets torched at the wake of the clash around the bank of Amboor stream, close to Rock Feed company behind Tarukpe Market, Yandev in Gboko.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof Tony Ijohor and Security Adviser to the State Government, Col. Paul Hemba (rtd), who paid an on-the-spot assessment visit to the area, warned all parties to the dispute to steer clear of the land in question until the matter is resolved amicably.
The government officials also held meetings with stakeholders and condemned the actions of both parties while urging them to embrace peace for harmonious living.
Police spokesperson for Benue Command, DSP Catherine Anene, did not answer calls put through her telephone at the time of filing this report.
