On Thursday, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike pledged to offer ‘logistics support’ to the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, anytime he would be campaigning in the state.
Wike added that Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, possesses all the necessary qualities to lead Nigeria.
At the site of the Nkpolu-Oroworokwo Flyover inauguration in Port Harcourt, the state capital, the Rivers governor informed the LP presidential candidate of this.
“Each time you want to campaign in the state, let me know, all the logistics support, we will give to you,” Wike told Obi.
The ninth flyover built by the current administration was dedicated in the state capital by Obi and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed. A sizable group of “Obidients,” or their fans, greeted them with enthusiasm.
In order to support the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Wike and four other governors have for months demanded the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s national chairman.
It is unclear whether Wike and his allies will support Obi or Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress in the race for Aso Rock’s top job, which analysts and keen observers have described as a three-horse race, despite the fact that they have not been seen to support Atiku.
Wike said though he knew the humiliation Obi suffered before he left the PDP for the Labour Party, he won’t leave the party but chase out the “armed robbers”.
“I know the humiliation you suffered. Nobody will hear what you pass through and stay in the party but I will not leave. I will stay and fight.
“I won’t leave this house. I will never allow armed robbers to take over this house. I will stay and chase away armed robbers.
“So, thank God because if you have not left, you would not have realised your ambition to be able to save Nigeria,” he said to Obi.
