The National President of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade, Chris Isiguzo, has called on journalists nationwide to be responsible in their reportage at all times especially, towards the 2023 general election.
Isiguzo spoke in Kaduna NUJ Secretariat during the commissioning of several projects initiated and completed by the new administration led by Hajiya Asmau Halilu, within five months in office,
Noting that elections are around the corner, he said, “I want to state this categorically, if you attend a wedding ceremony and you dress like a mad man, meanwhile you were invited to that event, on getting to the gate, they will bounce you back, looking at your dressing.
“But if you dress properly like a gentleman and you were not invited, you might even be ushered directly to the high table. Journalists must be responsible journalists”.
He also commended the feats achieved by the new administration within five months of assumption of office.
Isiguzo added, “We have come and have seen what is going on in Kaduna State Council, there is massive transformation efforts that is going on.
Speaking on the theme, ‘Media Role in Political Campaigns, Election and Crisis Management’, Dr Ahmed Balarabe Sa’id, appealed to politicians to be considerate to journalists.
“As elections draw nearer, as journalists, you should know how much professionalism goes into the profession.
“We should also know the role of the media in journalism, the politicians should not put all the blame on the media, but rather share the blame.”
The two day event held on Friday – Saturday, featured the commissioning/lecture and award ceremony on the giant strides of the new Kaduna NUJ State Council.
Items commissioned include; the NUJ sport gallery, window blinds, the conference hall, the council stage, members toilet, the correspondent office, NAWOJ and SWAN office under construction.
