The Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on Saturday met with candidates vying for the posts of governors across the country on the party platforms in the 2023 general elections.
Atiku met with the governorship candidates alongside his running mate and Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa at his residence in Asokoro, Abuja.
In attendance at the meeting include governorship candidates from Kaduna, Plateau, Katsina, Lagos, Niger, Kano, Sokoto, Delta, Yobe, Jigawa, Nasarawa, Kwara, Benue, Borno, Ebonyi and Zamfara states.
The meeting was held behind closed doors and lasted for more than an hour.
When the meeting came to an end, both Atiku and the governorship candidates refused to grant an interview to the press.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the PDP Governorship Candidates Forum and PDP Governorship Candidate in Kaduna State, Isah Ashiru, said the meeting was to formally congratulate Atiku and themselves.
According to him, they had an extensive discussion as a family on a wide range of matters.
When asked if during the meeting the ongoing rift between Atiku and Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State was deliberated on at the meeting, Ashiru said no.
He said due process must be followed on the call by Wike and his supporters in PDP for the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
