There are indications that politicking is gradually gaining momentum in political parties ahead of the 2023 general election.
This is evident with various moves and permutations by political parties who have been so quick to position themselves for opportunities ahead of the election.
Among the tactics of the political parties and their leaders is the canvassing of gladiators who can help them to pull crowd and possibly deliver each state to them.
The latest in this scenario is the wooing of Ondo State immediate past governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, by the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party.
Mimiko, whose political sagacity could not the overlooked, especially in Ondo State, has, among others, been the toast of top political parties in the country.
Sources close to the former governor said both parties had been contacting him ahead of the 2023 general election.
Meanwhile, the PDP has been imploring Mimiko to come back into the party from his current party, the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
The PDP Publicity Secretary in Ondo State, Mr. Kennedy Peretei, said Mimiko would soon return to the party.
On his part, the APC Publicity Secretary in the state, Mr. Alex Kalejaye, said he was not aware of Mimiko’s romance with the party but said there was room for the calibre of Mimiko in the party.
He maintained that Mimiko was yet to meet with the leadership of the party in the state over the purported move.
“You join the party through your ward. The former governor has not discussed with the leadership at the state level. So, we take the story of his romance with Abuja as mere rumour,” Kalejaye said.
