Most Nigerian youth and women are unable to secure jobs because they do not have the requisite skills.

The Director-General of National Directorate, ( NDE ) Mallam Abubakar Fikpo, said this in Kaduna at the weekend.

He said that the directorate had a passionate heart to empower unemployed youths and women on skill acquisition.

The DG who was represented at the event by the acting Coordinator in Kaduna, Madam Victoria Dada, noted that the Basic Non-Apprentice Scheme (B-NOAS ) of the NDE has as theme, “Quick fix demand-driven skills, training, and disbursement of resettlement of equipment to youths,” which held in Kaduna.

According to her, “the NDE has trained and disbursed skills’ equipment to youths who completed its resettlement skill acquisition programme.

“These youths are being provided with equipment to enable them start their businesses,” she said

Dada added that high unemployment rate which is a global phenomenon, has degenerated into worrisome proportions in Nigera.

School leavers and graduate of Nigerian tertiary institutions appear to be most adversely hit, she observed.

She said that the orientation of “quick fix demand-driven skills, training and disbursement of resettlement of equipment to youths” in Kaduna State is timely, as the youth responded according.

She said that the NDE was mandated for training of unemployed persons, especially the youth and women in various vocational trades.

“The aim is to equip them with marketable and functional skills, to enable them secure either wage or self-employment.

One of the beneficiaries, Abdullahi Shuaibu, said, “I have been trained as a computer operator and I have been given a computer and its accessories to start operating a business centre.”

The graduands were taught tailoring, barbing, satellite installation, computer job, car maintenance and electrical repairs.
