Umahi suspends Perm Sec for delay in payment of civil servants salaries

Ebonyi State government has suspended the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters and Rural Development over delay in payment of November salaries of local government workers.

A statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Kenneth Ugbala,  explained that Governor David Umahi gave order for the suspension of the permanent secretary in Abakaliki.

It explained that the governor expressed dismay over the delay in the payment of salaries of the workers and directed immediate suspension of the permanent secretary without salary.

The statement charged the state Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters and Rural Development, the SSA and SA on local government and the thirteen local government council chairmen to live up to their responsibilities by ensuring that salaries are paid as at when due.

It warned that failure to comply with the directive henceforth would attract severe sanctions.

Recall that earlier, salaries of civil servants in Ebonyi state were always paid between 15th to 20th of every month, but that of November, 2021 was not paid even up to 11th day of December 2021, hence the suspension.
