Troops deal major blow to Boko Haram, eliminate Shekau’s top ally Tahir Baga in Sambisa Forest

Troops from the Theatre Command, North East, under ‘Operation Hadin Kai,’ have successfully eliminated a prominent commander of the Boko Haram group, Tahir Baga, in the Sambisa Forest.

This achievement comes as part of a continued offensive against terrorist hideouts in the region.

Sources confirm that Tahir Baga was neutralized on May 13, 2024, during a major operation known as Operation Desert Sanity III. Intelligence reports and security analysts further corroborate this incident.

During the offensive, contact was made with the terrorists, resulting in the defeat of Tahir Baga and some of his associates, while others managed to escape with injuries.

Tahir Baga, a close associate of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, played a significant role in the group’s founding in Maiduguri before relocating to Sambisa Forest. Described as a respected Imam within the sect, Tahir Baga thwarted surrender efforts by fighters and coerced young girls into suicide bombings, promising them eternal rewards.

The elimination of Tahir Baga is seen as a significant setback for the Boko Haram terrorist organization.

Additionally, the operation led to the rescue of 14 individuals, including women and children, from captivity.

The fleeing terrorists abandoned weapons and equipment, including bomb-making materials, firearms, ammunition, communication devices, and other supplies, in the face of the troops’ firepower.
